after a wildly successful collaboration on thatmanmonkzs turn it out from the lp, columbus-ing, dave aju suggested they should continue their production streak for a new percussive tracks project. at the same time, aju had finally kept his word to legendary bay area club/underground mc and personality, foxxee aka foxxee brown aka lawrence petty, to work on a track together as well. petty being a core part of the infamous ya mamas house radio show on 106 kmel alongside pete avila and david harness that introduced legions of young bay area djs to real house music, includ-ing aju, in the early 90s.

mr. statik with previous contributions from joe claussell, move d, mr. ties, reagenz, discrete circuit and their very own away soundsystem, the berlin label away achieved a great deal of attention since its first release back in 2015. after having played at their infamous party series before, the greek all-rounder mr. statik now also debuts as a producer on away. as emphasized with releases on such labels as bpitch control, amam, or rotary cocktail, the resident of athens club six d.o.g.s draws inspiration from pop culture like science-fiction movies as well as comic books, also reflected in his rogue cherub ep. info rogue cherub ep its an open secret that mr. statik has a strong penchant for working with vocalists, and the title track is no different. starting off with an ingenious medley assembled through samples, rhythmic elements, and a funk-infused bass-line, rogue cherub ep highlights the greeks unordinary approach on house music. despite the partly broken, partly playful vibe its dave ajus distinctive voice holding everything together in a serene fashion. no less than the acknowledged master matthew herbert himself scales the hybrid down, attaching just the right disco-house touches to create yet another dance floor gem. morning star on the flipside tops off aways fifth catalogue number by a well-crafted techno-meets-dub workout unfolding mr. statiks versatile core strengths as a producer.

the maverick maestro from the bay dave aju is back with his circus family here with an incredible new release. based on stripped-down hardware sessions rocking just a roland tr-909 and sh-101, aju once again proves that no sound set need be limited in itself and along with the addition of one microphone for his inimitable soulful voice, creates one of his strongest and most imaginative releases to date, the 10101 ep. a multiple homage to the 101 freeway that spans his native golden state and the numeric classic analog boxes used vs digital binary to process them, the four rich tracks offer the best of both worlds and cover all the bases of mr ajus musical multiverse. low dive starts things on a deep heads-down dance floor tip where rising synth lines soar over a blast of shuffling drums and percussion for a rocksolid djs delight. always never comes next with pure aju magic, equal parts song and track, an ear worm of a chorus, and full of sunny west coast electro influences all the way through. on the flip sides may very well be one of ajus most intense transmissions ever, with a sublime and seemingly endless build-up of dark pads, driving, shifting rhythms, and voodoo vocals that will detonate many a peak-hour sound system guaranteed. aju then tastefully finishes with the cool psychedelic mid-tempo bump of tell her why which harks back to his hip-hop roots and wraps up the vibe and elements of the whole ep perfectly. welcome back with a bang brother aju!

our west coast brother from another mother marc barrite has been a vital part of the circus company troupe since the early days of the label, due in no small part to his combination of flamboyant style and hefty funk. for all the experimental qualities in marcs music as dave aju there is an equal amount of hip hop swagger and heartfelt soul, and when you filter those elements through a house music template you get close to a perfect definition of the tastes that drive our label.

for over a decade the us west coast innovator has been producing and performing his unique brand of electronic dance music. he seasons the rhythms of house and techno with an array of outside musical influences - notably jazz and p-funk, a low-slung aesthetic clearly rooted in hip-hop, and a sonic approach akin to music concrete. the result is a fresh and expressive sound that varies from raw and percussive to deep and melodic and is favored by an ever-increasing number of listeners, dancers and djs around the world.

heirlooms is a colorful, refreshingly varied departure from the everyday, rich with emotion and as deeply rooted as they come, offering yet another side of dave ajus kaleidoscopic musical world to explore.

after his ace remix for nicolas jaar s >space is only noise< here on circus company, our man dave aju is back with an appropriate dose of in-between original music for the fall season. taken from his upcoming album project that uses vintage inherited recordings as sound sources, >all together now< is a beautifully unique track that is guaranteed to move people with its irresistible groove. indeed, the aptly titled jam brings together and bridges gaps of various kinds, from lo-fi and hi-fi to under water and outer space, with classic-flavored dynamic percussive elements, spiraling futuristic leads, and melodic synth work sprinkled with aju s distinctive voice, encouraging us to join in on the live collective claps that accent the cut. the building bass pulses and warm instrumentation stack up toward the ceiling, until a fresh breakdown spreads things out to release the pressure. amsterdam don san proper brings an equally unique and refreshing remix to the table, with a rugged take on the track complete with cool guitar licks, modular effects, and contrasting additional vocal stylings. similarly dynamic in the drum workout department but with an extra rawness, it is a fantastic complement to the original that rounds out the release perfectly.

asiko disko - jt uses classic drum machines, sneaky acid lines and a mike dunn-esqe vocal to create this underground gem.
gaia - this track is sure to be a dj favorite. pounding tribal rhythms, hypnotic chants and an arrangement demanding to stay in the mix. this is a dj weapon.
asiko disko (dave aju remix) - having been a fan of dave aju for a while we thought it would be a hoot to get a remix from him. the result is a slow burning, shimmering remix that takes the original and shoots into space.
gaia (lance desardi remix) - our main man lance desardi turns in a electric remix. taking the original and delving into darker territory. new sonic creatures rotate around deep bass tones, hypnotic chants and new directions.

after the roaring success of nicolas jaars space is only noise album the fine curatorial heads at circus company hq have enlisted 2 of their nearest, dearest and most talent co-conspirators for the first round of remix duties. having built a cult following and peerless reputation for his remixes of everyone from roy ayers to cassius, pépé bradock turns in no less than 3 versions of too many kids finding rain in the dust. the proceedings begin with his blind pig mix, an echoing tunnel of balkan strings and dusty samples connecting the lands of disco and hip hop to blinding effect. the train fantôme poke follows and is certain to find its way into many a discerning dj bag in the weeks and months to come, with its mathew herbert-esque syncopations and grinding industrial scrapes and psychedelic whispers. dave aju takes up the baton on the flip turning the albums title track into the kind of late 80s dance floor work out martin hannet would have been proud of, certain to appeal to fans of recent work by matias aguayo, rebolledo and the comeme camp.

earlier this year they got together at martins studio in derby to create this classic deep house number. the parts were then taken to their respective studios to create their own versions. freds mix has a more straight forward vibe to it while martin takes things to the deep end, adding dub elements to the mix.

the second and final part to mossas massive album is festine pt.2. the first part was crafted for a more big room, late night feel and for the second slab of wax were going more for the bouncier out-door, summer fun time feel. there were so many moods on this full-length that we were able to craft specific types of eps. to some this may be more of the sound they come to expect to hear from mossa but we know him best, he has flavors upon flavors, which is very obvious on this ep. hes a hard artist to stereotype, exactly why we had to have him on thema. so for this excursion we have a tango-esque dance floor prime time buner-buleria, that will make you slam tequilas like the true lushes we are. on the flip side we have pezzner of freerange and dave aju of circus company delivering some sultry, tangy, funk for the body

after a string of fresh remixes, including a great one for the homewreckers here on circus, dave aju offers this two-track side project treat while we await his next album. picking up where he and the invisible art trio left off, and adding another member, we are proud to present thèse unique cuts by mr. aju and his new sol percussion ensemble.using a single percussion instrument for each track, aju and the ensemble bring a raw acoustic and upbeat live jam session vibe to the proceedings on “vibra” the scene shifts to day, as an unabashedly sunny feeling builds up into a sort of loose latin jazz/house interpretation of bob james’ “spunky, filled with refreshingly fun instrumentation and vocal accompaniments- it’s that vibe! . “flexa” starts off with a strong rhythm base, then takes off into the night as warm bass tones and vocal scat chants alternate over the course of this future-meets-primitive hypnotic groover. both tracks reintroduce some playful sonic alternatives to today’s more discerning dance floors, and with the diverse background of aju and his fellow sf bay area ensemble members, there’s plenty of soul and sol, just in time for summer.
